BMI Foundation Names Harrington and Jean Banks Award Winners

The BMI Foundation recently awarded four members of the Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop with Jerry Harrington Musical Theatre Awards and two members with the Jean Banks Award. The Harrington Awards, which were started and funded 13 years ago by retired BMI attorney, Evelyn Buckstein, in honor of her colleague Jerry Harrington, who loved musical theatre, are given each year to honor talent, promise and participation in the Workshop. This year, the Harrington Awards were given to Joseph Allred Olson (1st Year), Arri Lawton Simon (2nd Year), Katya Stanislavskya (Advanced Year) and Sara Wordsworth (Librettists). The Jean Banks Award, which was created by the BMI Foundation in honor of the late Jean Banks, who for many years lead BMI’s Theatre and Jazz Department, is presented each year to the best 10-minute musical of the year. This year the award went to Nicky Phillips and Laura Kleinbaum.
