BMI Foundation Awards Nathan Beverage and Leigha Logan with the 2024 Pete Carpenter Fellowship

Esteemed Composers Stephanie Economou, Trevor Gureckis, Ronit Kirchman, and Gil Talmi to Mentor Winners

New York, N.Y. and Los Angeles, CA - September 25 - BMI Foundation, Inc. has awarded media composers Nathan Beverage and Leigha Logan the Los Angeles and New York Pete Carpenter Fellowships, respectively. Beverage will receive mentorship from LA-based composers Stephanie Economou (The Chair, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla) and Ronit Kirchman (The Sinner, Fractal), while Logan will receive mentorship from NY-based composers Trevor Gureckis (The Goldfinch, Old) and Gil Talmi (Harry & Megan, Lead Me Home).

Nathan Beverage, the 2024 LA Pete Carpenter Fellow, is a media composer known for his emotionally resonant scores. Blending his background in jazz and classical piano with a passion for experimental sound design and synthesis, Nathan crafts hybridized, genre-defying music. His cross-disciplinary collaborations with filmmakers, artists, and designers has led him to score several award-winning short films featured at festivals across North America. Nathan creates with curiosity, believing each story has a unique sonic world waiting to be discovered. He holds bachelor’s degrees in composition and music production from the University of Cincinnati’s internationally renowned College-Conservatory of Music.

On being awarded the Fellowship, Beverage shared: “Film scoring is my life’s passion, and the opportunity to learn and grow from such incredible mentors is just invaluable.”

Leigha Logan, the 2024 NY Pete Carpenter Fellow, is a classically trained pianist, composer, and creative with a passion for storytelling. She enjoys writing music that sparks conversation on political, social, and psychological issues. Leigha has worked both within the concert composition and film scoring spaces and has had the opportunity to have her music performed and recorded by various musicians around the world. She is a recent graduate of the Berklee College of Music Scoring for Film, Television, and Video Games program where she received her masters degree. Her technical background, along with a passion for bringing people together, creates music with strong messaging and emotion.

Upon receiving the award, Logan stated, “I’m so excited to be doing the fellowship with the amazing mentors Gil Talmi and Trevor Gureckis. I’m just very excited to see how I’m going to be able to develop my own skills throughout the fellowship.”

The Pete Carpenter Fellowship, founded by iconic composer Mike Post in 1989, is an annual residency for aspiring film, television, and video game composers. Previously providing only one annual award, the fellowship expanded in 2022 to include mentorship for up to five weeks and a monetary award of $3,000 for one composer in New York City and one composer in Los Angeles. Previous fellows have included EMMY-winning composers Chris Beck (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Frozen), Roger Neill (Chicago Hope, King of the Hill, Mozart in the Jungle), Christopher Tyng (Futurama, The O.C., Suits), Atli Örvarsson (The Perfect Guy, Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD) and John Kaefer (The Wilds, Only, A Score to Settle), who currently serves as the program’s director.
