BMI Foundation Awards 2018 New Music Grants to Music Nonprofits Nationwide

The BMI Foundation’s 2018 New Music Grants Program has awarded funding for over forty-five music education programs, artistic development organizations and performing arts presenters throughout the United States. The awards provide operating support for a range of contemporary performers, instructors and preservationists spanning all genres of American music, with a preference for programs which directly involve living American composers.

Below is a complete list of 2018 BMI Foundation New Music Grant recipients, which include GRAMMY-winning ensembles, tuition-free youth orchestras and bands, world-class artist residencies and programs that are supporting, supplementing or replacing public school arts curricula.

“It brings everyone at the BMI Foundation great joy to support these wonderful organizations and programs that are committed to our mission of furthering the creation, performance and study of new American music,” said BMI Foundation President Deirdre Chadwick.

As part of its New Music Grants Program, the BMI Foundation has also named Copland House, Music at the Anthology and The Esoterics as its 2018 Jeffery Cotton Award recipients. Established by BMI Foundation Board Member Dan Coleman in honor of the late BMI composer Jeffery Cotton, the award is intended to defray the cost of rehearsing and presenting a second concert performance of a chamber or orchestral work by an American composer.

The BMI Foundation New Music Grants Program is administered on an annual, competitive and invitation-only basis. Awards are determined by the Foundation’s New Music Grants Committee upon the recommendations of internationally acclaimed musicians and music industry executives serving on the Foundation’s Artistic Advisory Panel. Established in 1985, the New Music Grants was the very first program created by the BMI Foundation. Since its inception, the program has invested over $3,000,000 in the legacy and creation of American music.
