BMI Foundation, Inc. / Carlos Surinach Commissions Awarded To Gordon Beeferman and David Schober
Ralph N. Jackson, President of the BMI Foundation, Inc., announced today that Gordon Beeferman and David Schober are recipients of Carlos Surinach Commission awards. They were selected from an impressive pool of young BMI affiliated classical composers, all of whom were recent winners of the BMI Foundation’s prestigious Student Composer Awards program.
BMI Classical Composers Win Awards from the American Academy of Arts and Letters

BMI has announced that Ralph N. Jackson has been elected President of the BMI Foundation, Inc. He succeeds Theodora Zavin, who has been named President Emeritus of the Foundation effective November 1, 2001.
BMI Salutes R&B Pioneers

Theodora Zavin Announces Retirement From BMI
Theodora Zavin, Senior Vice President and Special Counsel to the President of BMI, has announced her retirement from the performing rights organization after nearly 50 years with BMI. She will leave her position, as well as her post as the President of the BMI Foundation, effective November 1, 2001.
BMI Foundation Announces New Songwriter Workshop
The BMI Foundation has just announced the opening of a new songwriter workshop beginning September 27. This six-week workshop, to be taught by songwriter Billy Sideman, is designed to help hone songwriting skills by focusing on lyric writing, music theory and arranging/production techniques in contemporary songwriting.
Jamie Begian Named Winner of Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Prize
Big band leader and composer Jamie Begian has been named the winner of the second annual BMI Foundation, Inc./Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Prize for his piece, “Fuzzy Math.” The $3000 award, given to the writer of the best new work composed in the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop, was presented during the Workshop’s annual Showcase Concert at Merkin Hall on July 19.
