BMI Foundation Announces Lennon Scholarship Winners

BMI Foundation President Ralph N. Jackson has announced the winners of the 6th annual John Lennon Scholarships, a program that recognizes the talent of young songwriters between the ages of 15 and 24. This year’s winners include University of Miami senior Jaide Fried, who received first place honors and a $5,000 scholarship for her piece “Love Me Tonight.”

Jamie Begian Named Winner of Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Prize

Big band leader and composer Jamie Begian has been named the winner of the second annual BMI Foundation, Inc./Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Prize for his piece, “Fuzzy Math.” The $3000 award, given to the writer of the best new work composed in the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop, was presented during the Workshop’s annual Showcase Concert at Merkin Hall on July 19.
