52nd Annual BMI Student Composer Awards Competition Opens
The 52nd annual BMI Student Composer Award competition will award $20,000 to young composers, it was announced by BMI President and CEO, Frances W. Preston.

BMI Foundation Announces 7th Annual John Lennon Scholarships For Songwriters
The BMI Foundation has announced the opening of the 7th Annual John Lennon Scholarship competition for young songwriters. Established by Yoko Ono in 1997, John Lennon Scholarships are made possible through generous donations from Ono with matching funds from Gibson Musical Instruments.

BMI Partners With SupportMusic.com
BMI has partnered with SupportMusic.com in a new initiative in BMI’s array of efforts to support music education and school music programs. BMI’s dedicated partnership with SupportMusic.com will provide resources to community members to act locally, focused on informing and empowering parents to help restore local school music programs.
Jon Schapiro Wins BMI Foundation’s Charlie Parker Jazz Prize
The BMI Foundation has named jazz composer Jon Schapiro the winner of the 4th Annual Charlie Parker Jazz Prize for his work, “A Bounce in Her Step.” The $3,000 award, given to the writer of the best new work composed in the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop, was presented during the Workshop’s annual showcase concert at Merkin Hall on July 17.
BMI Foundation Welcomes Lennon Scholarship Winner
Stacy Allyn Baker (center), who won second place in the recent John Lennon Scholarship program, was welcomed in the BMI New York office. Baker is a Berklee College of Music student and took home a $2,500 scholarship for her song, “Too Late For Love Songs.”

The BMI Foundation, Inc. recently celebrated the 2003 Jerry Harrington Awards at a reception at the BMI New York office. Winners were congratulated in recognition of Outstanding Creative Achievement in the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop.

BMI Foundation Announces Lennon Scholarship Winners
BMI Foundation President Ralph N. Jackson has announced the winners of the 6th annual John Lennon Scholarships, a program that recognizes the talent of young songwriters between the ages of 15 and 24. This year’s winners include University of Miami senior Jaide Fried, who received first place honors and a $5,000 scholarship for her piece “Love Me Tonight.”
