BMI Foundation Honors 2023 Scholarship Recipients
BMI Foundation celebrated the recipients of the Evelyn Buckstein Scholarship, Theodora Zavin Scholarship, and Kavi Ohri Memorial Scholarship at a reception held on June 6th at the BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) offices in New York City.
71st Annual BMI Composer Award Winners Announced
BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) and BMI Foundation, Inc celebrated the honorees of the 71st annual BMI Composer Awards at a private ceremony held on May 15th at Chelsea Table and Stage in New York City. BMI Foundation President and BMI Executive Director of Classical Deirdre Chadwick, renowned composer and Chair of the Composer Awards Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, and BMI Senior Vice President of Licensing David Levin presented the awards to six emerging composers for excellence in composition.
Christian X. M. McGhee Awarded 2023 BMI Future Jazz Masters Award
Christian X. M. McGhee was awarded the 2023 BMI Future Jazz Master Award at the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) annual celebration of the Jazz Masters Fellows at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. McGhee was selected by a panel of NEA Jazz Masters for his talent and potential as a jazz performer and composer.
Ángela Fernández Awarded 2022 peermusic Latin Music Scholarship
Ángela Fernández was awarded the 2022 peermusic Latin Music Scholarship at BMI’s 30th annual Latin Awards in Beverly Hill, CA. Hosted by BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill and BMI Vice President, Creative, Latin, Jesus Gonzalez, the evening celebrated the top songwriters and publishers of Latin music.
2022 Pete Carpenter Fellowship Recipients
The BMI Foundation has announced the recipients of this year's Pete Carpenter Fellowship, a competitive residency for aspiring film, television, and video game composers. Composers Kat Vokes and Noah Horowitz were the recipients of this year’s prizes in New York City and Los Angeles respectively.

Two Winners share 2021 Charlie Parker Prize
Two winners were selected to share the top honors at BMI’s 32nd annual Jazz Composers Workshop held in New York City and featuring the best new big band and jazz orchestra compositions created in the workshop during the 2020-2021 session. Composers Chuck Iwanusa and Tracy Yang shared the prestigious Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Prize and split the award money.

The BMI Foundation has announced six members of the Tony-honored BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop as the winners of its annual Musical Theatre Awards, encompassing the Jerry Harrington Awards For Outstanding Creative Achievement in Musical Theatre, the Jean Banks Award, and the Ellen Schwartz Award for Outstanding Literary Merit in Lyric Writing.

The BMI Foundation, in partnership with Indiana University (IU) Jacobs School of Music, has selected Garrett Fasig as the winner of the 2021 David N. Baker Jazz Composition Scholarship, named in honor of the revered jazz musician, educator, and founder of IU’s Jazz Studies program.

BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.), in collaboration with the BMI Foundation (BMIF), is proud to announce six young classical composers, ages 18 to 27, as winners of the 69th Annual BMI Student Composer Awards. Each year these awards recognize superior musical compositional ability with educational scholarships totaling $20,000.
