Trained as an oboist and composer, Ralph N. Jackson worked with classical composers and publishers at BMI for 33 years, ending his career as the head of the classical music division. In 1989, he began his service as the Director of the BMI Student Composer Awards, and he was elected president of the Foundation in 2001, where he remained until his retirement in 2014.
