Winners of the Pete Carpenter Fellowship arrived at the Los Angeles studio of BMI TV composer Mike Post, ready to start their internship. The Fellowship was established by the BMI Foundation and Pete Carpenter’s family, colleagues, and friends to honor the late composer who was also Post’s longtime writing partner.

In celebration of what would have been John Lennon’s 64th birthday, Gibson Guitar has launched several major global programs honoring the late BMI songwriter’s enormous contributions to music and to the world.

BMI and the BMI Foundation mourn the passing of Theodora Zavin, one of the music industry’s most respected copyright attorneys, who served as a senior executive at BMI. Zavin died Monday (June 21) at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital after a brief illness.

The BMI Foundation is proud to announce the winners of the 5th Annual Jerry Harrington Musical Theatre Awards in recognition of outstanding creative achievement in the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop.

Pete Carpenter Fellowship, a competition open to aspiring film and TV composers under the age of 35. The Fellowship was established by the BMI Foundation and Carpenter’s family, colleagues, and friends to honor the late composer whose credits include television themes and scores such as The A-Team, Magnum P.I., The Rockford Files, Hardcastle and McCormick, Hunter and Riptide.

BMI Foundation President Ralph N. Jackson has announced the winners of the 7th Annual John Lennon Scholarships, a program that recognizes the best and brightest young songwriters between the ages of 15 and 24. This year’s winners include 20-year-old University of Michigan student Andrew Horowitz, who received 1st Place honors and a $10,000 scholarship for his song “Goodday.”

Congratulations to composers Ryan Amon (left) and Jonathan Kupper (right), winners of the BMI Foundation’s 15th Annual Pete Carpenter Fellowship for aspiring film composers under the age of 35.

The BMI Foundation has named jazz composer Jon Schapiro the winner of the 4th Annual Charlie Parker Jazz Prize for his work, “A Bounce in Her Step.” The $3,000 award, given to the writer of the best new work composed in the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop, was presented during the Workshop’s annual showcase concert at Merkin Hall on July 17.

Stacy Allyn Baker (center), who won second place in the recent John Lennon Scholarship program, was welcomed in the BMI New York office. Baker is a Berklee College of Music student and took home a $2,500 scholarship for her song, “Too Late For Love Songs.”
