First Women’s Music Commission Awarded to Asha Srinivasan
Ralph N. Jackson, President of the BMI Foundation, Inc., has announced that Asha Srinivasan is the recipient of the first Women’s Music Commission. The award, which is given in cooperation with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s (OSL), includes a $5,000 commission to create a new chamber music work to be premiered at OSL’s “Notable Women: A Celebration of Women Composers” in June 2007.
BMI Foundation Announces Carlos Surinach Award Winners
Ralph N. Jackson, President of the BMI Foundation, Inc., has announced that bassoonist Peter Kolkay is the recipient of the Carlos Surinach Prize, given to an emerging artist in recognition of “outstanding service to American music,” and that composer Judah E. Adashi is the winner of the Carlos Surinach Commission.
2007 Student Composer Awards Competition Opens
The 55th annual BMI Student Composer Awards competition will award $20,000 to young composers, it was announced today by BMI President and CEO Del Bryant and BMI Foundation President Ralph N. Jackson. The postmark deadline for entering the 2007 competition, which is co-sponsored by BMI and the BMI Foundation, is Saturday, February 3, 2007.
Millikin University Student Receives Foundation’s First Robert Sherman Scholarship
The BMI Foundation has announced the winner of its inaugural Robert Sherman Scholarship, awarded to Millikin University student Andrew James (Drew) Nellessen. The new $1,000 scholarship, endowed by Mary Poppins composer Robert Sherman and administered through the BMI Foundation, will be given each year to a talented student composer studying musical theatre.
