Dan Visconti Wins Boudleaux Bryant Commission
Dan Visconti has been named the winner of the BMI Foundation‘s 2008 Boudleaux Bryant Commission Award. Visconti was selected for the honor from a pool of recent winners of the BMI Student Composer Awards by members of the Janaki String Trio, who will premiere the work, “Lawless Airs,” at Symphony Space in New York City on May 15, 2008.
BMI Foundation Awards Third Annual Woody Guthrie Fellowships
The winners of the third annual Woody Guthrie Fellowship have been announced by Ralph N. Jackson, President of the BMI Foundation, Inc., and Nora Guthrie, Executive Director of the Woody Guthrie Archives (WGA) and Foundation.
3rd Annual Theodora Zavin Scholarship Awarded To Akiva Zamcheck
The BMI Foundation has named Akiva Zamcheck the recipient of the 3rd Annual Theodora Zavin Memorial Scholarship. The award, given for outstanding achievement in composition, is presented annually to a graduating senior at LaGuardia High School of Music and Art & Performing Arts in New York City.
Yale School Of Drama Student Wins BMI Foundation’s Robert Sherman Scholarship
The BMI Foundation, Inc. has announced that Yale School of Drama student Michael Mitnick has won the 2007 Robert Sherman Scholarship. The $1,000 award is made possible through the generosity of Mary Poppins composer Robert Sherman and is given each year to a talented student composer studying musical theatre.
BMI Foundation Receives $250,000 Donation; First Evelyn Buckstein Scholarship Awarded
The BMI Foundation, Inc .has announced that Evelyn Buckstein, BMI Assistant Vice President and Counsel and BMI Foundation Board Member, has established an endowed fund of $250,000 to create the Evelyn Buckstein Scholarship program.
Songwriter/Producer Clyde Otis Dead at 83
Renowned songwriter and producer Clyde Otis, a member of the BMI Foundation Artistic Advisory Panel, was pronounced dead at Englewood Hospital on January 8. He was 83 years old.
2008 BMI Student Composer Awards Competition Opens
The opening of the 56th annual BMI Student Composer Awards competition was announced today by BMI President and CEO Del Bryant and BMI Foundation President Ralph N. Jackson. The competition, which is co-sponsored by BMI and the BMI Foundation, will award $20,000 in prizes.
BMI Foundation Announces Opening of 5th Annual peermusic Latin Scholarship Competition
The BMI Foundation, Inc. has announced the opening of the 5th Annual peermusic Latin Scholarship, a competition for young songwriters and composers. Established by music publisher Ralph Peer II and generously funded by peermusic, a $5,000 scholarship will be awarded for the best song or instrumental composition in a Latin genre.

Adam Mathias and Brad Alexander win BMI Foundation’s Jerry Bock Award
The BMI Foundation, Inc. presented the 2007 Jerry Bock Award for Excellence in Musical Theatre to lyricist Adam Mathias and composer Brad Alexander August 7 at a luncheon held at the BMI offices. Mathias and Alexander received cash awards as well as commemorative plaques for their musical See Rock City.

Kirsten Volness has been named the winner of the BMI Foundation’s 2nd Annual Women’s Music Commission and will receive $5,000 to create a new work to be premiered by the Colorado Quartet at Symphony Space in New York City in May, 2008.
