Jeffrey Simno Wins Robert Sherman Scholarship
The BMI Foundation, Inc. has announced that Columbia University graduate student Jeffrey Simno has won the 2008 Robert Sherman Scholarship. The $1,000 award is made possible through the generosity of Mary Poppins composer Robert Sherman and is given each year to a talented student composer studying musical theatre.
6th Annual peermusic Latin Scholarship Competition Opens
The BMI Foundation, Inc. has announced the opening of the 6th Annual peermusic Latin Scholarship, a competition for young songwriters and composers. Established by music publisher Ralph Peer II and generously funded by peermusic, a $5,000 scholarship will be awarded for the best song or instrumental composition in a Latin genre.
BMI Foundation, Pepsi Blue Carpet Bash Announce Scholarship Recipients
The BMI Foundation and Pepsi Blue Carpet Bash have announced the winners of the 2008 Music Enrichment Fund Scholarship, an annual competition for young songwriters and composers. Scholarships are awarded to the best three songs or instrumental compositions in any Latin genre.
Theodora Zavin Scholarship Awarded To Christopher Castro
The BMI Foundation has named Christopher Castro the recipient of the 4th Annual Theodora Zavin Memorial Scholarship. The award, given for outstanding achievement in composition, is presented annually to a graduating senior at LaGuardia High School of Music and Art & Performing Arts in New York City.
2009 BMI Student Composer Awards Competition Opens
The opening of the 57th annual BMI Student Composer Awards competition was announced on Thursday, November 6 by BMI President & CEO Del Bryant and BMI Foundation President Ralph N. Jackson. The competition, which is co-sponsored by BMI and the BMI Foundation, will award $20,000 in prizes.
BMI Foundation Announces 21st Annual Pete Carpenter Fellowship for Aspiring Film Composers
The BMI Foundation has announced the opening of the 21st annual Pete Carpenter Fellowship for aspiring film composers under the age of 35. The Fellowship was established by the BMI Foundation and Mr. Carpenter’s family, colleagues, and friends to honor the late co-composer of television themes and scores including The A-Team, Magnum P.I., The Rockford Files, Hardcastle and McCormick, Hunter and Riptide.

Nine young classical composers, ranging in age from 11 to 26, have been named winners in the 56th Annual BMI Student Composer Awards. BMI Foundation President Ralph N. Dan Visconti Wins Boudleaux Bryant Commission
Dan Visconti has been named the winner of the BMI Foundation‘s 2008 Boudleaux Bryant Commission Award. Visconti was selected for the honor from a pool of recent winners of the BMI Student Composer Awards by members of the Janaki String Trio, who will premiere the work, “Lawless Airs,” at Symphony Space in New York City on May 15, 2008.

Songwriter/Producer Clyde Otis Dead at 83
Renowned songwriter and producer Clyde Otis, a member of the BMI Foundation Artistic Advisory Panel, was pronounced dead at Englewood Hospital on January 8. He was 83 years old.
