The opening of the 11th annual peermusic Latin Scholarship competition has been announced by the BMI Foundation, Inc. Established by music publisher Ralph Peer II and funded by peermusic, the competition for young songwriters and composers awards a $5,000 scholarship for the best song or instrumental composition submission in a Latin genre.

Erica Seguine Wins Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Prize
BMI composer Erica Seguine is the BMI Foundation’s 14th Annual Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Prize winner. Seguine won the $3,000 Manny Albam Commission at the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop that was held Friday, June 28, 2013, in New York for her composition, “The Ravine,” which was influenced by both the serenity and noise of New York City in the Ravine and neighboring North Woods of Central Park.
BMI’s Jazz Composers Workshop to Celebrate 25th Anniversary

BMI Honors Jill Abramovitz and Aron Accurso With Jerry Bock Awards
The Jerry Bock Awards, which are given for the most promising new musical to be written in the Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop, were presented at a luncheon at Broadcast Music Inc.’s New York office on June 10, 2013. With the sad death of Jerry Bock in 2010, the awards were taken over by his longtime collaborator, Sheldon Harnick.
61st BMI Student Composer Award Winners Announced

BMI Composer Michael Gilbertson Wins Prestigious Bryant Commission
2013 BMI Student Composer Award winner Michael Gilbertson has also been awarded the Boudleaux Bryant Commission for classical composers. Gilbertson, 25, just completed a Master’s Degree in Composition at Yale University and recently visited Broadcast Music Inc.’s New York City office to meet with Deirdre Chadwick, BMI’s Executive Director of Classical Music.
David Fulmer Named Winner of the 2013 Carlos Surinach Commission
The BMI Foundation has announced David Fulmer as this year’s winner of the Surinach Commission. Established by a generous donation from the late composer Carlos Surinach, the Commission is awarded through a partnership program between the BMI Foundation and the Concert Artists Guild in New York.
BMI Foundation Awards 8th Annual Woody Guthrie Fellowships
The winner of the eighth annual Woody Guthrie Fellowship has been announced by Porfirio Piña, President of the BMI Foundation, Inc., and Nora Guthrie, President of the Woody Guthrie Foundation. The program funds research fellowships for scholars to use the rich and extensive archival holdings available at the Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
