The American Composers Orchestra (ACO) named BMI Foundation, Inc. a 2024 Creative Catalyst honoree at their third annual Gala and Creative Catalyst Awards in New York City on Tuesday, October 15th. The Creative Catalyst Awards honor the contributions of visionary leaders who exemplify the ACO’s core values of artistry, creativity, community and equity. The night, which had the theme of “Raise up!”, also honored violinist and composer Regina Carter and ‍Verve Group Emeritus Creative Director and VP Hollis King. 

BMI Foundation, Inc. has awarded media composers Nathan Beverage and Leigha Logan the Los Angeles and New York Pete Carpenter Fellowships, respectively. Beverage will receive mentorship from LA-based composers Stephanie Economou (The Chair, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla) and Ronit Kirchman (The Sinner, Fractal), while Logan will receive mentorship from NY-based composers Trevor Gureckis (The Goldfinch, Old) and Gil Talmi (Harry & Megan, Lead Me Home).

Singer/songwriter Aria Lisslo received the first prize for the 2024 BMI Foundation John Lennon Award, with Eva Westphal and Peyton Marie named second and third-place award winners from over 500 applicants.

BMI Foundation, Inc. recently announced the recipients of the 2024 Curtis Mayfield Scholarships and 2024 Chris Trousdale Dream Awards. These programs support young high school musicians in continuing their studies of music, with awards totaling over $30,000.

BMI Foundation, Inc. is thrilled to announce that LA-based jazz musician Kai Spatzier is the winner of the 2024 BMI Future Jazz Masters Award. The announcement was made on Friday evening at the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Annual Jazz Masters Awards Dinner held in celebration of the NEA Jazz Masters Tribute Concert at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. on April 13th.

BMI Foundation, Inc. announced that the 21st annual peermusic Latin Music Award will be represented by Venezuelan singer-songwriter and producer Jorge Luis Chacín. Beyond the $5,000 career grant, the prize for the award will also include 1:1 artistic mentorship from Chacín.

BMI Foundation, a 501(c)3 organization, continues its fundraising efforts to support the creation, performance and study of music. The nonprofit is committed to reaching a goal of $50,000 by the end of this calendar year to fund the many awards, commissions, grants and scholarships it will give throughout 2024.

BMI Foundation, Inc. named composers Louis Stevens and Bryan Garbe as recipients of the 2023 Pete Carpenter Fellowship, a competitive residency for aspiring film, television, and video game composers.

Kendra Jae, the recipient of the 2022 BMI Foundation Charlie Feldman Award, will be opening for Victoria Monét’s The Jaguar Tour in her hometown of Sacramento, California on October 9th. Monét announced the lineup for her tour on her social media in September, which will also include performances by Alex Vaughn, Ambre, Lavi$h, Leon Thomas, Tanerélle, and Tone Stith.

BMI Foundation, Inc. has announced the winners of the Curtis Mayfield Scholarships and the Chris Trousdale Dream Awards. Awards for both programs, which include monetary gifts exceeding $30,000, are given to high school students pursuing a career in music.

BMI Foundation presented saxophonist and composer Joseph Herbst with the 2023 Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Prize and Manny Albam Commission for his piece “Where My Dreams Go to Die?” at the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop showcase at Symphony Space in June.
